FAQ

1. How often do furnaces need servicing?
All manufacturers say cleaning and servicing your furnace each year is important. The U.S. Energy Department says that you increase the life of your equipment by 10% when you have it maintained. Ensure your equipment does not deteriorate. You can prevent deterioration with simple preventative maintenance.

2. How often should filters be changed?
If you have pets, children constantly moving, and an active household, the filter should be changed once a month.

If there are one or two people in the household and you are at work during the day with no pets and no allergies, every three months would suffice.

3. How long does equipment last?
Naturally, the efficiency and the brand of your product alters the formula a bit, but in general:

Furnaces – 10 to 20 years.
Air Conditioners – 10 to 15 years
Heat Pumps – 15 years

If your equipment isn’t worn out, you still have to worry about costs and comfort. Improvements are being made all the time. Make sure you have the latest equipment and technology.

4. Can I have central air added?
In general, homes have been designed to take on a new air conditioning system. Every so often, we do find ductwork lacking volume of airflow, or there isn’t enough space to insert the equipment. This does not happen more than occasionally. We will come out to see if central air can be installed at no charge to you.

5. What do I need to know about an electronic air cleaner? What about an electrostatic filter?
An electronic air cleaner is able to clean the air by creating a magnetic field using household current. All air particles have a charge, so the magnetic field is able to capture them as the air flows through the ducts in your home. The latest cleaner from Honeywell can capture even the largest particles, helping to combat bacteria and viruses in your home. Particles that cannot be seen, including pollen and dust mite debris, are also trapped by the system.

An electrostatic air filter is comparable to the filter inside your furnace. It is able to create static electricity like the kind you would find on your clothes when they come out of the dryer. It can attract particles, though is not as high strength as the electronic air cleaner.

6. How do I protect my family from carbon monoxide?
Make sure your equipment is checked each year. Have a professional carbon monoxide test performed. Have a detector installed in your home.
